NRL player Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow embroiled in fresh controversy following a late-night drinking spree with opposing NRL star
In the final stretch of the NRL season, the Dolphins find themselves in a tense position, battling for a maiden finals berth. However, off-field drama has been making headlines, casting a shadow over the team.
Firstly, the relationship between Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and Jaime Chapman, a Gold Coast Titans NRLW star, ended earlier this year. Reports suggest the breakdown was caused by a scandal involving an explicit sex video featuring Tabuai-Fidow. Neither party has publicly addressed the split or commented on the alleged video.
Tabuai-Fidow, who plays for the Dolphins and Queensland Maroons, has been making headlines for a different reason recently. He was training with the North Queensland Cowboys before the reporting of the scandal involving his State of Origin teammate Gehamat Shibasaki. Shibasaki, a Brisbane Broncos centre, was dumped by his coach for breaching team protocols.
The incident in question occurred in Brisbane the day after a win against the Cowboys. Shibasaki was reportedly out drinking with Dolphins players, including Tabuai-Fidow, despite being supposed to abstain from alcohol ahead of the NRL finals. This breach of team pledge cost him his spot in the team against the Melbourne Storm.
Tabuai-Fidow, on the other hand, was not implicated in any wrongdoing during the drinking session. However, it is the second time in recent weeks he has made headlines, which could potentially impact his performance on the field. Despite this, he will play against Canberra this weekend.
The Canberra Raiders, who have already locked up the minor premiership, are expected to rest several key players. This could give the Dolphins a much-needed advantage as they strive to secure a finals berth. The Dolphins must defeat the Raiders to keep their hopes alive.
Meanwhile, Gehamat Shibasaki trained with the team on Wednesday and was 'absolutely flogged' by coach Maguire. However, it appears unlikely that he will play in the first week of the finals due to his previous breach of team protocols.
Michael Maguire acted swiftly by dropping Shibasaki and putting him through extras at training. The coach is determined to maintain discipline within the team as they push towards the finals. The Dolphins will need all hands on deck if they are to secure a historic first finals appearance.
