In the heated race for New York City's mayoralty, a series of intriguing developments have emerged.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has expressed concern about the lack of endorsement from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani. Ocasio-Cortez underscores the importance of party unity, particularly in the context of a Trump administration.

Mamdani, known for his bold moves, has challenged Donald Trump to a televised debate. This proposal has sparked a response from billionaire businessman John Catsimatidis, who claims that Trump has expressed concerns about the city's fate if Mamdani wins in November. Catsimatidis also mentioned that Trump wants the most qualified candidate to beat Mamdani, a sentiment he believes should be achieved under Trump's watch.

However, Mamdani has shown a preference for debating Trump himself, stating that he would rather face the president directly instead of his alleged puppet.

Meanwhile, Mayor Eric Adams, the Democratic incumbent, has denied any communication with the Trump administration regarding a potential job offer. Adams has also accused The New York Times of poor reporting standards and has expressed concerns about former Governor Andrew Cuomo determining the rules of the electoral process.

Cuomo, on the other hand, has denied any knowledge of conversations between the Trump administration and Adams regarding a potential job offer. He has also suggested that other candidates should drop out of the mayoral race to consolidate the non-Mamdani vote.

In a surprising turn of events, Curtis Sliwa, the Republican nominee, is attempting to recruit Adams' campaign staff, despite his known dislike for Donald Trump.

Amidst these political manoeuvres, Ocasio-Cortez's support for Mamdani remains conditional. Her reservations stem partly from Mamdani's association with Israel boycott campaigns. Despite this, Ocasio-Cortez has voted in favour of supplying defensive arms to Israel and opposed some union strikes, positioning her somewhat apart from Mamdani's more radical leftist stance.

The president, reportedly, has no desire to see Mamdani as the city's next mayor. These developments promise to keep the New York mayoral race in the spotlight in the coming weeks.
