NYPD pursues two individuals following a gunfight in Westchester, authorities confirm

In the early hours of Friday morning, a dramatic incident unfolded in Mount Vernon, Westchester County. The Metro-North Railroad temporarily suspended service on the New Haven Line between Mount Vernon East and Fordham stations due to police activity.

The incident began when police were pursuing two individuals who are wanted for shooting at NYPD officers in the area. According to reports, one of the suspects fired approximately four to five shots at the officers, but no one was hit. The officers returned fire during the incident, but the number of shots fired by them is unclear.

The suspects fled into a backyard and a nearby MTA lot, with one of them dropping a gun as they ran, according to police. The shooting incident occurred north of the Bronx, near 29 Pearl St. in Mount Vernon, at around 5:45 a.m., and it took place in a residential area.

The Mount Vernon Police Department has taken control of the crime scene and is investigating. Initially, it was reported that both suspects had fired at officers, but this was later clarified to be only one suspect. The suspects were identified as individuals matching the descriptions of those involved in an armed gas station robbery.

Despite the efforts of the police, the two suspects are still at large. The names of the individuals wanted for shooting at NYPD officers early Friday in Westchester County have not been publicly disclosed. The updated story reflects new information from the NYPD.

The Mt. Vernon police have not yet commented on the incident, as their spokesperson did not immediately return calls for comment on Friday. The Metro-North Railroad services resumed later in the day, following the conclusion of the police operation.

This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to maintain safety and security in our communities. The investigation into this shooting incident is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
