The historic Dresden Zwinger will be transformed into an exciting event venue next year, as the iconic courtyard prepares for a series of three-day concerts by Purple Disco Machine.

According to a spokesperson, the castle grounds are eagerly anticipating the spectacle, which is set to take place at Pfingsten 2026. Detailed planning for the concerts is currently underway, with the aim of creating a unique overall experience that showcases the combination of modern music and Dresden architecture.

Security measures will be in place to ensure the safety of guests, with personnel securing stairs and terraces that are not to be used during the concerts. Water basins on the castle grounds will also be closed off for the duration of the events.

The idea for the Purple Disco Machine concerts was inspired by a musical event at the Baroque Dresden Zwinger, which tells musical fairy tales in a historical setting. The concerts are expected to contribute to promoting positive images of Dresden worldwide.

Approximately 9,000 guests are expected per evening, with the Zwinger courtyard being closed from the start of the concert admission during the concerts. However, the Zwinger courtyard exhibitions and museums will remain open for visitors to enjoy.

The lawn will be covered to ensure a comfortable experience for guests, and certain distances from buildings will be regulated to maintain the safety and integrity of the venue. A live stream with Purple Disco Machine from the Semperoper has demonstrated the success of combining modern music and Dresden architecture, and the organisers are confident that the concerts at the Zwinger will be no exception.

The Zwinger courtyard will reopen as an event location after renovation, and the concerts are seen as an important part of the ongoing detailed planning for the events at Dresden Zwinger. The goal is to create a memorable experience for attendees and to spread positive images of Dresden globally. Precautions are being taken to protect the venue during the concerts, with the organisers committed to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
