Offense of Cocalico shows improvement, yet loses to New Oxford in competition
New Oxford started the game with a bang, scoring a 27-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Luke Frey to receiver Brody Holmes. The first quarter ended with New Oxford leading 7-0.
In the second quarter, Alex Brown added to New Oxford's score with a 26-yard touchdown run, extending their lead to 14 points. Cocalico, however, fought back with determination. Quarterback Connor Horning scored two touchdowns for Cocalico, one being a 15-yard run to pull Cocalico within one before halftime. The score at the break was 14-13 in favour of New Oxford.
The second half saw more action as Connor Horning scored another touchdown on a 9-yard run, giving Cocalico its first lead of the game. But New Oxford wasn't ready to concede. Brody Holmes tied the game at 22 with an impressive 81-yard kickoff return.
In the end, it was Breck Popolis who sealed the victory for New Oxford with a 28-yard field goal, putting them back up by three. The final score was 25-22 in favour of New Oxford.
Looking ahead, New Oxford will play South Western on the road next week, aiming to maintain their undefeated status. Cocalico, on the other hand, will host Lampeter-Strasburg next Friday in an attempt to get their first win of the season.
Dane Horning led the game with 38 carries for 176 yards, demonstrating his exceptional performance on the field.
