Officer in Seine-Saint-Denis caught on video striking a teenage individual; dual investigations launched

In the heart of Saint-Denis, a shocking incident has unfolded, with a local police officer being placed under investigation for an alleged act of violence against a young man.

According to reports, the incident occurred during a police operation, which was in relation to a group of five men, two of whom had contact bans. The officer in question, who has yet to be named, approached the young man within a few centimeters of his face, sparking a verbal exchange.

The exchange escalated, with the officer reportedly spitting in the young man's face. The young man, who was facing the grille of a building and did not resist, immediately wiped the spit off his face with his sleeve.

The incident did not go unnoticed. A young woman, who chose to remain anonymous, filmed the entire scene from her open window. Her footage, which has since been shared widely, shows the officer's aggressive behaviour towards the young man.

The officer also allegedly destroyed the young man's phone by throwing it to the ground. However, the search results do not provide the name of the officer who committed these actions.

Following the incident, the Internal General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN), the police of the police, has been seized in this case. An investigation has been opened for violence by persons holding public authority.

The mayor of Saint-Denis, Mathieu Hanotin, has expressed his disapproval of the officer's actions. He finds the officer's gesture unacceptable and believes that police officers must be exemplary to maintain authority. If police officers behave like thugs, they lose their authority to act, he stated.

The witness, identified as Sonia, also stated that the officer was agitated and spoke rudely to everyone involved. The prosecutor of Bobigny (Seine-Saint-Denis) provided this information to France Télévisions teams.

Two other officers did not react during the incident, raising questions about their role in preventing such behaviour. The young man was eventually let go free by the officer after the incident.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding the principles of respect and professionalism within the police force. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates are expected in due course.
