In Krasnodar, a court has sentenced Sergei Zinovenkin, a former deputy head of a department in the regional office of the Federal Service for State Registration, Cadastre, and Cartography, to five years of probation and a fine of 300,000 rubles for attempted fraud.

The fraud charge against Zinovenkin stems from an incident in May 2012, when he claimed to a businessman that he could provide a land plot for acquisition. However, the land plot Zinovenkin attempted to sell was not in his possession or under his control.

According to the investigation, the land plot in question was actually in municipal ownership. But Zinovenkin, in an attempt to deceive the businessman, asserted that the land was for sale at 45 million rubles during a conversation in May 2012.

The commercial company that owned the land Zinovenkin offered to the entrepreneur in 2012 was Gazprom. However, the businessman approached Zinovenkin regarding the acquisition of a land plot on lease, not realising that the land was not within Zinovenkin's authority to provide.

On May 25, 2012, the businessman paid a deposit of 5 million rubles to Zinovenkin, and he was subsequently detained by operatives. The information about the fraud incident was provided by Natalia Smyatskaya, the assistant to the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Krasnodar Krai.

It was later discovered that the land plot Zinovenkin claimed to have was actually in the ownership of a commercial enterprise, not within his authority to sell. This revelation led to Zinovenkin's conviction for attempted fraud.

The sentence includes five years of probation and a fine of 300,000 rubles, a punishment that reflects the seriousness of the crime. The case serves as a reminder to all public officials to uphold their duties with integrity and transparency.
