Offshore Wind Energy Expansion in the Baltic Sea: Renewed Momentum for Collaborative Endeavors
The Press Office of the Federal Foreign Office has announced the opening of media registration for the Baltic Offshore Wind Forum, a significant event aimed at fostering dialogue among key stakeholders on offshore wind energy development and regional cooperation.
Under the theme "Energy Security in the Context of Europe's Changing Geopolitical Landscape", the forum will delve into topics such as the intersection of energy and security policy, resilient and interconnected infrastructure, production capacities, and spatial requirements in the Baltic Sea region.
The event, organised by the Federal Foreign Office, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the German Energy Agency (dena), will take place during Germany's presidency within the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS). The forum will be hosted by Annalena Baerbock, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, and Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark.
The Baltic Offshore Wind Forum is open to both in-person and digital participants. For those unable to attend in person, the forum will be digitally transmitted via Zoom, a new addition to the event's format, courtesy of the German Energy Agency (dena).
The forum comes at a time when energy security in the Baltic Sea region is of paramount importance, with the Russian war against Ukraine having significant implications for the region. The Baltic Sea coastal states are aiming for strengthened cooperation to expand renewable energy sources and related infrastructure.
Other countries involved in the Baltic Offshore Wind Forum during Germany's presidency include Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and potentially other Baltic Sea coastal states such as Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Poland, which are commonly engaged in Baltic Sea regional cooperation initiatives. However, the exact list of countries specifically participating in this forum during Germany's presidency is not explicitly detailed.
Media representatives are encouraged to register for the Baltic Offshore Wind Forum in early May. The registration deadline is 2nd May 2023. Further information for media registration can be obtained from the Press Office of the Federal Foreign Office.
Offshore wind energy can enhance energy independence in the Baltic Sea region and beyond. The forum promises to be a platform for discussing strategies to harness this clean, sustainable energy source, while promoting regional cooperation and energy security.
