Ontario-leading Blue Jays restore veteran infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa, obtaining him from the Pirates
The Toronto Blue Jays have made a significant move in the offseason, claiming infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates. The eight-year veteran has inked a two-year, $15 million contract with the team ahead of the 2024 season.
Kiner-Falefa, who has previously played for Texas and the New York Yankees, brings a wealth of experience to the Blue Jays. In his most recent stint with the Pirates, he showcased a batting average of .264 with one home run and 35 RBIs in 119 games this season.
The Blue Jays acquired Kiner-Falefa before the 2024 season through a waiver claim, a move that strengthens their infield depth. Notably, Kiner-Falefa played 83 games for the Blue Jays before he was traded to Pittsburgh at last year's deadline.
Unfortunately, the Blue Jays have also dealt with an injury setback. Right-hander Yimi García, a key member of the team, has been transferred to the 60-day injured list. García requires elbow surgery and will be out for the rest of the year.
The Blue Jays will undoubtedly look to Kiner-Falefa to provide solid production at the plate as they aim to compete in the 2024 season. With the addition of Kiner-Falefa and the return of key players from injury, the Blue Jays are poised to make a strong run in the upcoming season.
