Maryland Lottery and Gaming has issued a reminder to all operators offering online gaming products in the state, emphasising the importance of operating within the legal framework. The authority has ordered several unlicensed operators to halt their operations in Maryland, including the latest cease-and-desist order issued against sweepstakes operator VGW.

The list of unlicensed gaming platforms that have received such orders includes, but is not exhaustive, and people are advised to refer to the lists of licensed sports betting and daily fantasy sports operators when choosing a platform. The licensed operators in Maryland for sports betting and daily fantasy sports are Bally Bet Sportsbook, BetMGM, betParx, BetRivers, Caesars Sportsbook, Crab Sports, DraftKings, ESPNBet, Fanatics Sportsbook, FanDuel, and LetsBetMD.

It's worth noting that betting and online fantasy competitions are the only legal gaming options in Maryland. Sweepstakes, a grey-area gaming format that is neither legal nor illegal in many markets, remain a controversial issue.

Maryland Lottery and Gaming periodically contacts operators of unlicensed gaming, asking them to confirm that they are not operating illegally or to cease their activities. However, there are no publicly available search results providing information about unlicensed online gambling operators in Maryland that have been shut down but have since become active online again and remain operational.

In an effort to help players familiarize themselves with the regulatory framework, Maryland Lottery and Gaming has decided to list all legal providers of sports betting and daily fantasy sports. The authority encourages players to only use these licensed platforms to ensure a safe and fair gaming experience.

The state's policy so far has been to push back against the sweepstakes sector, aligning with most states' approach. Online casinos and other types of online gaming or wagering are not permitted in Maryland.

For more information, a full list of cease-and-desist orders sent by Maryland Lottery and Gaming is available on its official website. Players are urged to stay informed and play responsibly.
