OSV discontinues regular print publications, focusing instead on their website and various other projects

In a significant move announced on Aug. 14, Our Sunday Visitor Inc. (OSV) has revealed plans to discontinue almost all of its periodical operations by December. The decision is part of a strategic shift in response to changing readership patterns and the rapidly evolving media landscape.

Founded by Father John Francis Noll in 1912, OSV has been a beacon of Catholic content for over a century. The organisation started with the publication of Our Sunday Visitor, a national weekly newspaper that had a circulation of almost a million. Over the years, OSV expanded its offerings to include various periodicals such as The Deacon, The Priest, and OSV Kids.

Among the discontinued publications, Our Sunday Visitor magazine, the flagship publication for which OSV was named, will offer its final issue in October. The magazine, a monthly lifestyle magazine that replaced OSV's longtime weekly newspaper in 2024, had become a popular read for many. OSV Kids will conclude with the September issue, while The Priest will publish its last edition in December, and The Deacon is ending its run as an OSV publication with its November/December issue.

Archbishop John Francis Noll, the founder of OSV, had a vision to serve the Church through Catholic content. His pioneering efforts in the use of mass media to promote the Catholic faith were significant. Until his death in 1956, he continued his efforts, and his legacy will spread its ripples down through the ages, as echoed by OSV publisher Scott P. Richert.

In the new era, OSV will continue to serve the Church in new and innovative ways to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The English edition of "L'Osservatore Romano," the Vatican's newspaper, will continue to be published by OSV. Additionally, OSV Inc. has been involved in various other ventures, such as the founding of the Bridgeton Covered Bridge Association Inc. in Indiana, although the exact founding date is not specified in the provided information.

The CEO of OSV, Kyle Hamilton, stated that the discontinued publications have been an integral part of OSV's mission for over a century. He emphasised that the move is not a departure from OSV's core mission but a necessary step towards adapting to the changing times.

This decision marks a new chapter for OSV, one that promises to continue the legacy of Archbishop Noll in serving the Church and the Catholic community in innovative and impactful ways.
