Over 30 historical sites in Lübeck will be accessible to the public
On the second Sunday in September, the Hanseatic City of Lübeck will open its doors to reveal a treasure trove of historical and architectural wonders during the Day of Open Monuments. This nationwide event, organised by the German Foundation for Monument Protection, has been a celebrated tradition since 1993.
This year's theme, "Worth-full: priceless or irreplaceable?", aims to draw attention to the material and historical value of every monument. Visitors can expect to explore a diverse range of architectural styles, from medieval masterpieces to modern marvels.
Some of the highlights include several medieval town churches, historical bourgeois houses, and former warehouses. A reform school from the late 1920s, complete with its own planetarium, is another must-see monument. The Maritim Strandhotel in Travemünde, built in the early 1970s, and the building of the Amts- and Landgericht on Burgfeld, built between 1957 and 1962, are also part of the open monuments.
Over three dozen program points are offered during the Day of Open Monuments, with some requiring registration for visitors.
