Almaty, Kazakhstan, woke up to a blanket of snow on January 13 as the first snowfall of the season began at 04:30. As of 09:00, 10 cm of snow had accumulated, and the city is working tirelessly to clear the streets and ensure public safety.

A total of 1907 road workers, including city employees, emergency responders, and utility personnel, have been mobilized by local authorities to clear streets. Additionally, 630 pieces of special equipment, including 234 sand spreaders, are involved in the snow clearance operations.

Snow removal operations are not limited to the city's roads. Work is underway to clear sidewalks, pedestrian zones, public transport stops, parking areas, overpasses, parks, and squares. Anti-ice materials are being used extensively in these operations to treat roads, intersections, ramps, and other areas.

Kazhydromet's forecast predicts that the snowfall will stop by the end of the day, and the temperature is expected to reach -2°C. After the morning rush hour at 09:00, snow-clearing columns escorted by road police patrol vehicles will be organized to ensure smooth traffic flow.

However, no new information about the current road conditions or the impact of snowfall on public transportation is available at this time. To monitor the progress of snow clearance work, a 24/7 duty has been organized in district and city akimats.

Snow removal operations are also taking place in mountainous and foothill areas. A total of 2650 cubic meters of anti-ice materials have been used in these operations so far.

As the city continues to battle the snow, residents are advised to stay updated on the latest road conditions and public transportation information. Further updates on the weather forecast for the rest of the day are expected to be released soon.
