Paramount Secures Initial Film Agreement with Will Smith
In a significant move, Hollywood star Will Smith and his production company Westbrook have signed an exclusive multiyear pact with Paramount Pictures. The focus of this deal is on developing four-quadrant theatrical movies, aiming to create blockbuster hits that appeal to a wide audience.
The Westbrook banner, run by Will Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, has been instrumental in this collaboration. Besides their upcoming project, "Sugar Bandits," based on the book "Devils in Exile" by Chuck Hogan, Westbrook also has a first-look deal with Paramount to develop large-scale, franchise-based films. These projects will often star Will Smith, with Paramount playing a crucial role in their production.
Westbrook's previous collaborations with Paramount include the action thriller "Gemini Man," where Smith worked with Ellison's Skydance banner. Ellison, the head of Paramount Pictures, has been on a dealmaking spree, recently securing a deal with Activision for the "Call of Duty" movie franchise. Activision's popular video game series is set to become a big-screen movie franchise.
Another project revealed as part of the deal is "Rabbit Hole" from "Dune" writer Jon Spaihts. "Sugar Bandits" follows a down-and-out Iraqi war veteran who intercepts drug deals for profit.
In addition to these projects, Will Smith's recent on-screen appearances include "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" in 2024 and the 2022 Apple history drama "Emancipation." With this new deal, fans can expect more exciting projects from the star in the near future.
Paramount's recent ventures also include a $7.7 billion deal for UFC rights, further cementing its position in the entertainment industry. This deal marks a significant step forward for both Paramount Pictures and the Westbrook banner, promising a fruitful collaboration in the world of film.
