Paris Art Basel Director Clement Delepine Steps Down to Head Lafayette Anticipations
Art Basel Paris Welcomes New Director as it Prepares for Debut
Art Basel Paris is gearing up for its first edition, and it has appointed a new director to lead the way. Clément Delépine, who currently heads Art Basel Paris, will take on the role of director at Lafayette Anticipations, a Paris exhibition space, on November 17.
Delepine's appointment comes after a successful tenure at Paris Internationale, an independent fair, where he served as director from 2016 to 2021. Prior to that, he worked as a director at New York's Bortolami Gallery and the Swiss Institute, also in New York.
The decision to bring Delepine on board was made when it was announced that the new fair would have a citywide program, aiming to create a "dynamic dialogue between its cultural industries—from fashion and design to film and music."
Guillaume Houzé, the president of Lafayette Anticipations and the great-grandson of one of Galeries Lafayette's founders, expressed appreciation for Delepine's work and looks forward to the new chapter. Delepine, in turn, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by Houzé and expressed his eagerness to further affirm Lafayette Anticipations' unique positioning on the French and international art scene.
Lafayette Anticipations, which operates out of a 19th-century industrial building in Le Marais, has been known for its ambitious exhibition program since its founding in 2012. Recent shows have been dedicated to Martine Syms, Issy Wood, Cyprien Gaillard, Martin Margiela, and Wu Tsang, among others.
Rebecca Lamarche-Vadel, the previous director of Lafayette Anticipations, has left her position to pursue a new personal and professional challenge. Art Basel CEO Noah Horowitz congratulated Delepine on his appointment and expressed continued focus on working with Delepine and the team to execute a stellar Paris edition next month.
Art Basel Paris was launched after nabbing the October dates at the Grand Palais from longtime French fair, FIAC. The name of the new fair was initially "Paris+, par Art Basel", but it has since been ditched.
Delepine expressed appreciation for Lamarche-Vadel's work at Lafayette Anticipations and looks forward to building upon her legacy. As he prepares to take the helm at Lafayette Anticipations, Delepine is leading the search for a new director for Art Basel Paris.
With Delepine's appointment, it seems that Art Basel Paris and Lafayette Anticipations are poised for exciting new chapters in the world of art. Stay tuned for more updates as these two influential institutions continue to shape the French and international art scene.
