Participants in the Mainz Gutenberg Half Marathon successfully collect over €12,000 in fundraising efforts

In a heartwarming display of solidarity and generosity, the Mainz Gutenberg Half Marathon has once again proven to be more than just a sporting event. Since its inception in 2000, the charity campaign "Herzenssache" has collected an impressive sum of over 66 million euros, with this year's event adding a significant contribution.

The event, held on a sunny autumn day, saw over 5,000 runners pass through a donation gate. Their collective efforts during the race have funded over 1,600 aid projects for sick, disabled, and socially disadvantaged children and young people in Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg, and Saarland.

The Mainz 05 football club was responsible for collecting the donations during the charity campaign. The originally targeted goal of 10,000 euros was exceeded, with a total of 12,226.46 euros being raised. Race Director Jo Schindler expressed his gratitude for the solidarity shown by the runners, thanking all donors who made the support possible with their contribution.

While the charity campaign did not disclose the exact number of participants in the half marathon, it did thank all those who contributed, whether they ran the race or made additional individual donations. However, the specific details on how the donations were collected at the donation gate were not provided.

The excess funds, collected through these additional individual donations, will be used to support the ongoing work of "Herzenssache". The campaign did not specify how the funds will be allocated, but the collective effort has made a significant difference in the lives of many children and young people.

The Mainz Gutenberg Half Marathon served as a powerful platform for the charity campaign, showcasing the spirit of giving and community support. As the runners took each step through the donation gate, they were giving children and young people new chances, making this event more than just a race – it was a testament to the power of collective action for a good cause.
