Partnering with SNOPUD, Onapsis bolsters SAP application security and reinforces its dominance in the utilities industry.
The Snohomish County Public Utility District (SNOPUD) has announced a partnership with Onapsis, a leading cybersecurity company specializing in SAP applications. This collaboration aims to bolster SNOPUD's security measures, particularly as the utility company embarks on its Connect Up program, a three-year project to upgrade all meters on homes and businesses.
Through this partnership, SNOPUD will leverage the Onapsis Platform, a comprehensive, SaaS-based solution that provides recommendations for patch prioritization and auto-remediation of vulnerabilities. The Onapsis Platform is fueled by threat intelligence from the Onapsis Research Labs, the world's leading team of security experts.
Kellie Snyder, Chief Customer Officer at Onapsis, stated that SNOPUD is the perfect addition to their growing portfolio of utility customers. Mariano Nunez, CEO and co-founder of Onapsis, expressed his delight, stating that SNOPUD prioritizes the security of its critical business applications and the safety of its customers.
Utility companies often struggle to prioritize security, particularly when accelerating their digital transformation projects. Cyberattacks on utility infrastructure are becoming more costly, with the average cost of a data breach in the energy sector being $4.72 million. Onapsis will help SNOPUD provide uninterrupted services for the residents of Snohomish County, as part of its security strategy to lock down its most critical assets.
The Onapsis Platform requires minimal human intervention, allowing SNOPUD staff to focus on other high-priority projects. Through the partnership, SNOPUD will also leverage the Onapsis Platform to secure net-new business processes associated with the Connect Up program.
The SNOPUD-Onapsis partnership is significant for the sector, as it demonstrates that SAP security is a crucial component of security strategy. In fact, the Onapsis Platform is one of the top contributors to the SAP product Security Response Team.
Before this partnership, Onapsis had won utility customers including PORR AG, a major construction company using SAP systems, choosing Onapsis as a strategic partner for SAP security. However, it is not explicitly stated whether SNOPUD is included in their future utility customers.
SNOPUD aims to protect the personal data of its 373,000 energy customers and 23,000 water customers. By partnering with Onapsis, SNOPUD lays the groundwork for its security-first digital transformation journey.
