Holger Pyka, a renowned author for "Kirche in 1Live", has taken on a new role as the director of the Seminary for Pastoral Training in Wuppertal, Germany. This prestigious training and learning center for young theologians is supported by four regional churches.

Pyka's journey in theology began when he completed his doctorate in 2017, focusing on the relationship between church and carnival. This academic background, coupled with his practical experience, makes him an ideal candidate for this position.

Prior to his new role, Pyka served as the pastor of the Uellendahl-Ostersbaum parish in Wuppertal for eight years. During his tenure, he combined traditional parish work with innovative ideas, particularly in digital communication. He used social media to convey beliefs in a simple and approachable manner, helping modernize the church's public image.

Pyka's commitment to digital communication extended beyond his role as a parish pastor. He served on the publicity committee of the church circle and was a member of the mixed commission for the reform of theological studies in the EKD.

In addition to his new role as director, Pyka continues his teaching position at the seminary. Since 2020, he has been a lecturer for homiletics/liturgics, occasional services, parish development/spirituality. In 2023, he was appointed as a full-time lecturer.

Pyka is also a co-editor of the Göttingen sermon meditations and resides in Bergisches Land.

On June 1, 2025, Pyka officially took over as the director of the Seminary for Pastoral Training in Wuppertal in a service held at the "Auf dem Heiligen Berg" conference and guesthouse. The formal introduction took place on August 29, 2025, at the auditorium of the conference and guest house.

Pyka has completed additional training in pastoral care, coaching, and spiritual guidance, ensuring he is well-equipped to lead the seminary and guide the next generation of theologians.
