People Affected by Covid-19 Call for Improved Care: Petition Submitted in Landtag on September 10th

Petition Demands Improved Care and Research for Long-Covid Sufferers in Saxony

A petition addressed to the President of the Saxony State Parliament, Alexander Dierks (CDU), and the Chair of the Petitions Committee, Daniela Kuge (CDU), is set to be presented to the Saxony State Parliament on September 10 at 1:15 PM. The petition, which has been signed by over 3,500 people, advocates for concrete measures to improve medical care, research, and social security for people suffering from long-term effects of Covid-19, Post-Covid, ME/CFS (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), or Post-Vac.

According to the petition, around 100,000 people in Saxony are affected by Post-Covid, with at least 18,000 people suffering from ME/CFS, including those who were already affected before the pandemic. The petition urges systematic recording of case numbers to better understand the extent of the problem.

The "Not Yet Recovered Saxony" initiative, an official state group of Not Yet Recovered, connects patients and their families, provides information on current developments in research and care, and organizes actions to raise awareness of these illnesses. The organization is calling for biomedical research and clinical studies to be expanded to develop effective therapies.

The petition also demands adequate recognition of these illnesses by health insurance providers, social services, and pension insurance providers. Particularly concerning is that 10 to 20% of Post-Covid patients develop ME/CFS - a neuroimmunological and multisystemic disease.

To address the needs of severely affected patients, the petition calls for telemedicine, home visits, and palliative care. Specialized clinics are to be established and expanded as interdisciplinary competence centers with therapy options. Medical professionals are to receive training and further education to better understand and treat these complex conditions.

The petition also advocates for awareness campaigns for social service providers, employers, and schools to ensure that those affected receive the support they need. Around 60% of those affected are not or only partially able to work, and approximately 25% of those affected cannot leave the house and require intensive care.

In addition to these demands, the petition urges the systematic recording of case numbers to better understand the extent of the problem and to provide adequate support for those affected. The organization that presented the petition is not explicitly identified in the available search results.
