In the political landscape of Perak, the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) is currently undergoing a period of active reconsideration and potential realignment, with grassroots-level resolutions in Perak, Kedah, and Penang approving cooperation with Perikatan Nasional (PN) and not ruling out leaving the Perak Barisan Nasional (BN).

This shift in position has been driven by an acknowledgment of the changing national political landscape and the party’s weakened position within BN. MIC President Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran has confirmed informal talks with PN, emphasizing that the final decision lies with the party’s central leadership and must prioritize the Indian community's future and party survival.

In Perak, the MIC's stance reflects these broader grassroots motions, with an openness to cooperate with PN. Perak BN Chairman, Saarani, has assured that the MIC is not being sidelined, pointing to the appointment of 14 MIC leaders as local council members in Perak as evidence.

Saarani made these statements to reporters after attending the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Community Padi Sports Carnival in Teluk Intan. He also asserted that if MIC were to join the opposition, they would not receive anything.

MIC representatives hold positions as local council members and have been given important roles in state government-linked companies. Despite no formal invitations from other parties at the moment, MIC is open to discussions beyond BN to strengthen the party and ensure its relevance.

Relations between Saarani and MIC leaders, including M Ramasamy, the state MIC chairman, remain cordial. MIC representatives are in regular contact with Saarani, and the party continues to play a role on the Perak Water Board, even without an assemblyman from MIC.

The statements were reported by Berita Harian, and they also refer to the reported move by the state MIC in Penang to leave BN. The future alignment of MIC within Perak BN and other coalitions remains a topic of ongoing discussion and consideration.
