In a tragic incident that occurred during the U.S. Open tennis tournament, a man lost his life on Saturday afternoon. The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. on United Nations Avenue South, near the Queens Theatre, New York State Pavilion, and the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens.

According to preliminary reports, the man was lying face up on the roadway when he was run over by an NYPD officer driving a marked Ford Taurus. The officer was reportedly traveling at approximately 10 mph at the time of the incident.

The officer who was driving stayed at the scene after the incident, and emergency medical responders transported the man to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Detectives are currently investigating the incident, and they are working to determine why the man was lying in the path. The city's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is also working to determine the man's cause of death.
