Asian Americans Rise to Influence in New York

In a significant shift, Asian Americans are making their mark in New York, taking on influential roles and emerging as a pivotal force in competitive races. This transformation is evident in the recent flipping of legislative seats and the securing of policy victories.

City & State, a leading publication, has celebrated this rise with the inaugural Asian Trailblazers list, a comprehensive compilation of more than 50 Asian American individuals who are making waves across advocacy, nonprofit, government, and private sectors. The list, written and researched in partnership with journalist Phenix Kim, was unveiled to coincide with Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

The first edition of the Asian Trailblazers list in 2025 featured 50 outstanding Asian American leaders. Justice Judy Kim, recognised for her contributions to law and justice, was among the trailblazers. The list showcases the extensive experience and noteworthy accomplishments of these individuals, though the complete names of all 50 individuals were not detailed in the available search results.

The Asian Trailblazers list represents a diverse range of backgrounds, with family ties to China, India, the Philippines, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and more. This diversity reflects the rich tapestry of the Asian American community in New York.

In a further sign of the growing influence of Asian Americans, Diwali and the Lunar New Year have been designated as public school holidays in New York City, acknowledging the importance of these cultural celebrations.

City & State is pleased to present the Asian Trailblazers, a testament to the growing representation of Asian Americans in elected offices and the significant contributions they are making to New York.
