Pistorius announces substantial boost in production capabilities - Pistorius Experiences Significant Expansion in Production Capacity
Germany's defense sector is set for a significant boost, as Diehl Defence announced a one billion euro investment in German sites. The announcement was made during a visit by Defense Minister Boris Pistorius to a defense company in Troisdorf.
Minister Pistorius emphasized the importance of Germany becoming more independent in defense production, highlighting the need for technological development and growing industrial sites and production capacities in the country. This investment is part of Pistorius's vision for expanding arms production in Germany.
The Troisdorf site, however, has been a subject of controversy in the past. Previous disputes over the large area threatened the expansion of defense activities, with the city council planning residential construction. But with Diehl Defence's plans to double its production capacities by 2026, particularly increasing the capacity for the Iris-T air defense system by tenfold, these concerns seem to be a thing of the past.
The Iris-T air defense system, manufactured by Dynitec GmbH, a subsidiary of Diehl Defence, has been making headlines nationwide due to these developments. The system, which is of central importance for expanding arms production, has a success rate almost at 100%. Its production capacity has increased tenfold, and eight firing units have already been delivered to Ukraine, with eight more to follow.
Helmut Rauch, CEO of Diehl Defence and a member of the SPD party, called the Iris-T air defense system the most modern in Ukraine, which has shown high effectiveness against attacking weapon systems. Rauch's plans for the Troisdorf site are ambitious, aiming to double the production capacities that are already set to be doubled by 2026.
The Iris-T air defense system is not the only area seeing increased production capacities in Germany. Dynitec GmbH, a subsidiary of Diehl Defence, manufactures components of igniters and explosives used in ammunition and guided missiles, contributing to the overall growth in arms production.
This investment and the resulting expansion of arms production in Germany are seen as crucial steps towards achieving greater independence in defense production. Minister Pistorius's visit to the Troisdorf site serves as a testament to the government's commitment to this goal.
