Poker Tour World Moves to The Star Sydney Starting from September 18th
World Poker Tour (WPT) Australia Festival Kicks Off at The Star Sydney
The World Poker Tour (WPT) is back in Australia, with the WPT Australia festival taking place at The Star Sydney casino from September 18 to October 1. This marks the first time the WPT has been in Sydney since the WPTDeepStacks series in March 2022.
The festival kicks off with the $1,500 Australian Poker Cup on September 18, followed by the main event, the WPT Australia Main Event, which runs for five days and crowns its champion on October 1. The first flight of the Main Event shuffles up and deals on September 25.
The Main Event costs $5,500 to enter and has three flights, providing ample opportunities for poker enthusiasts to participate. The festival also includes a $20,000 Buy-in Super High Roller event, scheduled for September 24-25.
Last year, the $20,000 Super High Roller event was won by Corey Kempson and Hamish Crawshaw, who chopped the event, each taking home $354,541. The Gold Coast edition of the WPT Australia Main Event attracted 396 players and had a prize pool of $2,930,400, with Aussie superstar James Obst triumphing and winning $585,359.
In addition to the main events, the WPT Australia schedule includes dozens of satellites and side events with buy-ins ranging from $150 to $20,000. The previous $1,500 Opening Event drew in 408 entrants, with Mishel Anunu emerging victorious and claiming a $109,754 top prize.
The festival also sees the return of the $10,000 WPT World Championship Warm-Up event, taking place from September 29 to October 1. Kareem Kilany won this event in September 2024 at the Star Gold Coast, taking home $228,641.
