Police in Bremen issue warnings for three separate instances of deceptive practices
In a series of recent incidents, individuals posing as police officers or relatives have targeted elderly residents in Bremen, Germany. The suspects, described as being between 1.60 and 1.70 meters tall, with a dark complexion, and wearing dark clothing, have been reported in various areas of the city.
On July 3rd, an 82-year-old woman in Vegesack's Gärdestraße received a call from an individual claiming to be a police officer. The caller claimed a list of potential victims, including her name, was found on arrested suspects. Shortly after, another man posing as the supposed son's friend rang her doorbell to collect money. The woman handed over the money, and the unknown man then fled.
Around the same time, at 6 pm, a man posing as a neighbour's son rang the doorbell at an 84-year-old couple in Essenerstraße. The man asked the couple to accept a package for his supposed mother and fled when the wife returned with a pen and paper. The search results do not provide any information about a person connected to the theft of a wallet on Essenerstraße on July 3 at 6 p.m.
On a separate occasion, a man called a 75-year-old woman in Neustadt's Donaustraße claiming to be her son, saying his wallet had been stolen and he needed money. A man posing as a detective later visited the elderly woman, who let him into her apartment, where she handed over her bank cards. The supposed detective's accomplice fled with the bank cards when the woman received another call from the supposed police officer.
The suspect in the Essenerstraße case is described as having a different appearance, with a focus on his clothing - a blue anorak and dark beanie. He is also described as being in his late twenties, about 1.70 meters tall, slim, with a dark complexion, and wearing a dark cap.
The police are seeking witnesses in both cases and warn against these con artists. Tips can be reported to the criminal duty officer at (0421) 361-3888. The Bremen police urge residents to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a police officer or a relative before providing any personal information or valuables.
