Police receive backing from September, in their endeavors

The Baden-Württemberg police force is preparing for a significant expansion, with approximately 150 trained officers set to join the ranks on September 1st. This news comes as Interior Minister Thomas Strobl expressed his gratitude to the existing officers and acknowledged the challenges facing the force.

Minister Strobl highlighted the demographic changes, skills shortages, and growing challenges that the police force continues to confront. Despite these difficulties, the force remains an attractive employer, offering clear career prospects and modern equipment.

The strategy pursued by the state since 2016 has been successful in attracting many young, qualified individuals to the police force. In fact, over 13,000 young people have been recruited for police training in the state since then. This has resulted in the police force currently counting around 500 more personnel than in 2016.

The state's goal is to not only stabilise but also further expand the personnel strength, despite the increasing retirements. The new officers, both male and female, will play a crucial role in achieving this goal.

The graduates of the middle police service were formally bid farewell this week at five locations, marking the end of their training and the beginning of their careers in policing. Minister Strobl emphasised that those who choose a career in policing take on a responsibility for safety and the democratic society. He also emphasised that the police profession is a calling, setting it apart from other jobs.

The police force in the state is well-equipped to face the challenges ahead, thanks to the dedication of its officers and the strategic recruitment efforts of the government. Minister Strobl expressed his thanks and recognition to the police officers, acknowledging their invaluable contribution to maintaining safety and security in the state.
