Polish authorities consider Turkish defense company for construction of 155mm ammunition production facility
Turkish Defense Company MKE Makes Strides in Global Defense Industry
Turkey's Military Industries and Technology Corporation (MKE) is making significant strides in the global defense industry with a series of ambitious projects.
MKE's flagship investment is a 4.7 million square meter Energetic Materials Factory, the first of its kind in the defense industry and the third largest investment across all sectors in Türkiye. This factory, currently under construction at full pace, is expected to completely eliminate Turkey's dependence on foreign sources for explosives, according to MKE.
The investments are not only significant for Turkey's defense industry but also for its strategic expansion into the European defense market. MKE's participation in MSPO 2025, one of Europe's largest defense industry exhibitions, held September 2-5 in Kielce, is a testament to this strategic move.
In addition to the Energetic Materials Factory, MKE is undertaking domestic expansion projects valued at $818 million across 10 factories and three facilities. One of these projects involves the transformation of an idle former sugar factory in Samsun's Carsamba district into a Nitroguanidine production facility.
MKE's global ambitions are not limited to Türkiye. The Turkish defense manufacturer has been shortlisted for a major ammunition production facility project in NATO member Poland. The project in question is a proposed 155mm Howitzer Ammunition Production Line.
MKE Deputy General Manager Tolga Celik confirmed the development at MSPO 2025, stating the company's readiness to cooperate in establishing any production capacity that Poland needs. The Polish company considered as a potential contractor for the project is Advanced Protection Systems S.A. (APS).
These investments are expected to increase production capacity and strengthen Turkey's global competitive position in the defense industry. With MKE exporting to 105 countries and reporting revenue exceeding $1.2 billion in 2024, it is clear that the company's strategic conversion project is paying off.
MKE aims to strengthen Turkey's position as a global defense industry player through technology transfer and international production partnerships. These efforts are evident in the company's proposal to establish a factory in Poland for the production of 155mm ammunition for howitzers.
With 323 new investment projects progressing concurrently as of 2025, MKE shows no signs of slowing down. These projects, along with MKE's participation in MSPO 2025, indicate a bright future for the Turkish defense industry on the global stage.
