politician Rubio endorses potential nominee JD Vance for 2028 election, deeming him excellent choice
Marco Rubio, the current Secretary of State, has expressed his desire to continue serving in the Trump administration and his hope that Vice President JD Vance will run for president in 2028.
Rubio, a former presidential hopeful who ran for the top position in 2016, has been given tough assignments by President Trump since his appointment. These include running the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), serving as a national security adviser, and acting as Archivist.
Rubio's relationship with Trump was strained during the 2016 campaign, with Trump belittling Rubio as "Little Marco." However, the two reconciled after the campaign, as they were both Republicans. Rubio has praised Trump's "incredible instincts for human behavior."
Despite his past aspirations for the presidency, Rubio has downplayed the possibility of him running for president in 2028. He is committed to his role as Secretary of State and has noted that there are rules against him being involved in domestic politics due to his current position. However, he did not rule out a presidential run entirely, stating "You never know what the future holds. You never rule things out or anything."
Rubio has also praised Vice President Vance, calling him a great nominee and one of his closest friends in politics. Vance could potentially run for the U.S. presidency in the 2028 election if he chooses to pursue that path.
Rubio has been a vocal supporter of Vance's nomination, expressing hope that he will run for president in 2028. He has also reflected on his experience running against Trump in 2016, including his interactions with Trump's daughter-in-law.
Rubio has also made light-hearted jokes about Vance, with one instance being when he joked about Vance wearing multiple hats in the Trump administration. Vance, in turn, made a joke about Rubio being a devout Catholic after Pope Francis' death.
The next presidential cycle will be the first open race on both the Republican and Democratic sides since 2016, with Republicans expected to run without President Trump as the party's top standard bearer. Rubio, despite his current commitments, has not ruled out a potential return to the presidential race in the future.
