Porsche triumphs in Austin with the No. 6, securing a podium finish for Peugeot as well.
The 6 Hours of Austin, held under a beautiful sunset at the Circuit Of The Americas in Texas, was marked by heavy rain that significantly impacted the race conditions. Despite the challenging weather, the race was won by a Porsche team for the first time this season.
The Porsche #6, driven by Kevin Estre, Laurens Vanthoor, and Matt Campbell, crossed the finish line with an 8-second lead over the Ferrari #50. Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina, and Nicklas Nielsen took the second place for Ferrari.
The #94 Peugeot, driven by Stoffel Vandoorne, Loïc Duval, and Malthe Jakobsen, briefly held the 2nd place before yielding to Ferrari. The Peugeot team came close to securing the second place in the 6 Hours of Austin, marking their best result since their return to endurance racing.
Unfortunately, the #93 Peugeot, which qualified 3rd and started 18th due to an infraction, finished in 4th place.
The race was affected by heavy rain and had to be neutralized for nearly two hours with a long safety car period followed by a red flag. Despite these challenges, the Ferrari #51, driven by Alessandro Pier Guidi, Antonio Giovinazzi, and James Calado, finished 5th and kept them at the top of the Championship.
The Ferrari team suffered a puncture during the penultimate race restart, but they managed to hold onto their lead. As a result, Ferrari now leads the Championship with 203 points, extending its advantage over Cadillac, which could only manage 6th and 8th places after its success in Brazil.
The German car, Porsche, now sits in second place, with Peugeot closely following in third. There are only four points (59 to 55) between the two French constructors, Alpine and Ferrari, in the Championship.
Alpine did not achieve a top 10 finish in the 6 Hours of Austin. The #36 Alpine, driven by Frédéric Makowiecki, Jules Gounon, and Mick Schumacher, finished 15th, four laps down. The #35 Alpine, driven by Charles Milesi, Ferdinand Hasburg, and Paul-Loup Chatin, finished 11th.
After the 6 Hours of Austin, the #51 Ferrari team is leading the championship. They will race at the next round, the 6 Hours of Fuji at Fuji Speedway in Japan on September 28, 2025, aiming to secure the WEC title. This race offers Ferrari a chance to secure both titles (drivers and constructors).
The next round will take place in three weeks at the 6 Hours of Fuji in Japan, which will be the penultimate race of the season. It promises to be an exciting race as teams fight for the championship title.
