Porsche's new Cayenne Electric model equips cutting-edge wireless charging technology.

The luxury car manufacturer, Porsche, has taken a significant step forward in electric vehicle technology with the introduction of the Porsche Wireless Charger (PWC) for the Porsche Cayenne Electric. This innovative charging solution is a first in the market, providing a seamless and efficient charging experience for the electric SUV.

The PWC is a straightforward feature to initiate. When activated, the car's digital display cuts to gridlines overlaid on a feed from a forward-facing camera, guiding the driver to line up with the charging pad and park in the right place. The gridlines are designed to help drivers align their vehicles accurately, ensuring optimal contact with the charging pad.

The charge receptor, an optional feature, is a 15kg, water-cooled unit bolted behind the protective underbody cladding at the front of the car. The wireless charging pad operates effectively in temperatures ranging from -40 to 50 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for various climates.

The wireless charging pad is completely self-sufficient for charging the Cayenne. It operates at around 90% efficiency and offers charging speeds up to 11kW. It is important to note that the wireless charging pad is not embedded into the floor of a driveway or garage, allowing for flexibility in its placement.

The PWC is developed by Bender, a renowned name in the induction charging system industry. Porsche claims the wireless charging pad is unaffected by debris such as leaves or snow, ensuring uninterrupted charging during different weather conditions.

The wireless charging pad is an additional £3000, while the UK-spec Cayenne EVs are prepared with necessary wiring and hoses for the charge receptor. The Cayenne's air suspension lowers the body a few centimetres when charging, making the process even more convenient.

The Porsche Wireless Charger is a significant advancement in electric vehicle charging technology, offering a hassle-free, efficient, and weather-resistant charging solution for the Porsche Cayenne Electric. This innovative feature is set to redefine the charging experience for electric vehicle owners.
