Potential Consequences for FC Porto-Nacional: The Implications if a Club Fails to Attendance
In a surprising turn of events, Portuguese football club CD Nacional has alerted Liga Portugal of potential difficulties in attending their upcoming match against FC Porto, originally scheduled for next Sunday. Due to travel rescheduling issues, the team has booked their air travel and purchased tickets for Saturday, the 13th, the day before the original date of the match.
If CD Nacional fails to show up for the match, Article 76 of the Disciplinary Regulations of Liga Portugal stipulates possible penalties. These may include a match forfeit (0-3 loss), fines, and potential further disciplinary actions such as point deductions or relegation.
The justification for CD Nacional's absence must be presented in writing and received by Liga Portugal within two days of the absence. The regulation has exceptions for "force majeure, fortuitous event, and fault or negligence of third parties that determine the absolute impossibility of attendance."
The defeat in the match CD Nacional did not attend will not be officially recorded. If CD Nacional is found to have intentionally missed the match, a minimum of two and a maximum of five points may be subtracted from their total.
In addition to these penalties, CD Nacional could also be required to cover the expenses of arbitration and organization of the match, as well as damages to affected entities. A fine of an amount between 25 UC and 100 UC may be imposed on CD Nacional for not attending the match.
The match between FC Porto and CD Nacional has been brought forward to Saturday in anticipation of CD Nacional's potential absence. However, CD Nacional has not found a viable alternative to reschedule their travels, and the justification of their absence will be assessed by the Disciplinary Section of Liga Portugal.
