Potential match-up for Conor McGregor's return to competition could involve a new sport, as promoter offers tantalizing hints about his next adversary
In the world of mixed martial arts, speculation is rife about the future of Conor McGregor, one of the sport's most iconic figures. The Irishman, who has been out of action for four years, is making a comeback, but the details are yet to be confirmed.
Conor McGregor's business partner, David Feldman, revealed that the UFC champion is gearing up for a bout in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) promotion. If a fight with either Mike Perry or Jeremy Stephens comes to fruition, McGregor would be debuting under his own promotion.
McGregor has two fights left on his UFC contract, and any BKFC venture would require permission from the UFC, should it be proposed before his final two fights. McGregor has re-entered the UFC's drug testing pool, indicating a potential return to the octagon.
Feldman also stated that McGregor wants either Perry or Stephens as his opponent, should he fight under the BKFC promotion. McGregor famously 'fired' Mike Perry from the BKFC, but recent developments suggest a possible reconciliation.
Meanwhile, McGregor has expressed interest in landing a headline spot on the newly confirmed UFC White House Card. Dana White, UFC president, has revealed he would trust McGregor more than Jon Jones as a headliner for the event. However, no official announcements on who will feature on the July 4 UFC White House event have been made yet, and fans will have to wait until 2026 for any updates.
The US President, Donald Trump, is involved in planning the July 4 UFC White House event. It remains to be seen whether McGregor will be part of this historic occasion or if he will make his BKFC debut against Perry or Stephens.
McGregor, known for his brash personality, has recently teased his comeback on social media. His last appearance was in the trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier in 2021, where he suffered a broken leg. The next scheduled fight for McGregor is planned against Michael Chandler in a comeback match, but the date is currently unknown and postponed indefinitely after an initial planned fight in June 2024 was canceled due to injury. It may take place in 2025 or 2026 at Las Vegas, USA.
Jeremy Stephens has history with McGregor, having been mocked by him at a press conference in 2016. The two have yet to face each other in the octagon, and a BKFC bout could provide an opportunity for this long-awaited matchup.
As the MMA world waits with bated breath for McGregor's return, one thing is certain: the Irishman is focused and training hard, ready to make his mark once again.
