Butlin's Announces Plans for New Resort in North West England

Butlin's, the iconic British holiday resort chain founded in 1936, has announced substantial progress in its five-year growth strategy. The CEO, Jon Hendry Pickup, expressed optimism about the company's future and plans to continue investing in entertainment and accommodation offerings.

In a recent development, the North West of England has emerged as the most likely location for a new Butlin's resort. The area around Morecambe in northwest England is being considered for a future Butlin's holiday camp. However, the specific location has not been named yet.

The CEO did not specify a timeline for the opening of a new resort, stating it would be a few years down the line. Butlin's is currently developing new experiences such as the sky pilot play experience in its existing resorts.

The company's financial performance has also shown improvement. After being sold for £300m towards the end of 2022 to the Harris family, who founded Bourne Leisure in 1964, Butlin's posted a pre-tax profit of £61.2m in 2022, an improvement from a loss of £24.4m in 2023. Butlin's turnover rose from £290.4m in 2023 to £292.7m in 2022.

Butlin's has positioned itself as the home of entertainment in the UK holiday market. The company's increased turnover is attributed to the expansion of its offering to include adults on big weekenders and conference-goers alongside families.

In October 2023, City AM reported that Butlin's had entered the red in the year after it was sold. However, the operating loss of Butlin's narrowed from £22.9m in 2023 to £10.9m in 2022. Butlin's changed its pricing strategy in the year it was sold.

Butlin's currently operates sites in Bognor Regis, Minehead, and Skegness. In 2022, the company invested more than £50m, with a focus on Skegness. The CEO of Butlin's, Jon Hendry Pickup, has expressed interest in expanding the company beyond its current locations.

As Butlin's looks towards the future, it remains committed to providing unforgettable holiday experiences for its guests. The company's focus on entertainment, investment in new resorts, and expansion of its offerings are all indicative of this commitment.
