Potential Recovery in August Survey Results Following the Election?

Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru's approval ratings have shown a significant improvement in August, according to several polls. This is the first time in half a year that Ishiba's approval numbers have exceeded 30% in any poll, and in some cases, even surpassed 40%.

In the Nikkei poll, Ishiba's approval rating increased by 4 points, reaching 32%. This is the first time since February that his approval numbers have exceeded 40% in the Nikkei survey. The Kyōdō News poll also saw an increase, with Ishiba's approval rating climbing to 35.4%.

The Mainichi survey, which asked respondents to select a reason there was no need for a replacement, found that the top response was "because resigning sends the message that the party is more interested in power struggles than in the needs of the people," at 31% of the total.

Across all polls, respondents saying Ishiba should stay in office outnumbered those suggesting it was time for him to hand the reins to someone else. However, a larger number of young respondents in the Nikkei and Kyōdō surveys think Ishiba should resign as prime minister. Conversely, a majority of elderly respondents in the Nikkei and Kyōdō surveys believe Ishiba should remain prime minister.

This improvement in approval ratings comes after the Liberal Democratic Party, led by Ishiba, performed poorly in the July House of Councillors election. Despite the election loss, Ishiba's approval numbers did not show a significant decrease in the August surveys.

It is important to note that despite the increase, Ishiba's disapproval numbers remain higher than his approval ratings in all of the surveys. The search results do not provide the name of the opposition leader running against Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in the next election.

In conclusion, Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru's approval ratings have shown a significant improvement in August, with his approval numbers exceeding 30% in several polls for the first time in half a year. However, it remains to be seen how these improved approval ratings will impact the upcoming election.
