New Volkswagen Arteon R Set to Make a Stir
Volkswagen has announced that a new performance-oriented version of its Arteon model, the Arteon R, is in the works. According to Martin Hube, a Volkswagen spokesperson for models including ID, Polo, Passat, and Touareg, the Arteon R will be a "real agile, powerful car."
The Arteon 'Q-CAR' has returned to the range after WLTP compliance adjustments, and it seems the new Arteon range will now include the Arteon R. The Arteon 'Q-CAR' is priced from £39,065, but the cost of the Arteon R has yet to be determined. Prices for the new Arteon range from £34,305 to £39,955.
The Arteon R is expected to compete with cars like the new Kia Stinger GT. It will likely only be available with a DSG gearbox and will be equipped with VW's latest Haldex 4MOTION four-wheel drive. At launch, the Arteon will offer a 2.0 litre TDI with 150PS and a 2.0 litre TS with 280PS.
While Hube claimed that the Arteon R will "beat the Porsche Panamera out of the way," it is unclear if such a claim is entirely accurate. Volkswagen is planning to release an Arteon R with a turbocharged 3.0 litre VR6 engine and 404bhp, but the timeframe for such an announcement has not been disclosed.
In addition to the Arteon R, the new T-ROC, Arteon, and Polo models have received engine and trim updates. The T-ROC range has expanded with a new entry-level T-ROC S, and the Polo range has also added new options. The new Arteon is available in Elegance or R-Line trim and is positioned in the UK market as a fastback flagship. The Arteon R is intended to serve as a flagship for Volkswagen's range-topping Arteon.
The new Volkswagen Arteon is now on sale in the UK, but it remains uncertain if the Arteon R will be released in the UK as well. With its promised agility, power, and performance, the Arteon R is shaping up to be an exciting addition to Volkswagen's lineup.
