Prepares Foundations for City's Designation as 2025 European Cultural Capital by Municipal Authority

In a significant turn of events, the city of Pforzheim is advancing its preliminary negotiations to become the European Capital of Culture 2025. This decision comes after a marathon meeting on Tuesday, where key decisions for the fall were made.

The change in direction was largely due to a private offer from Pforzheim entrepreneurs to cover the application costs. This move has been warmly received by many city council members, who have linked their approval to a legally sound cost assumption. The aim is to ensure the city incurs no costs in the process.

Mayor Schüssler, one of the initiators of the idea, summarizes the challenges for Europe as being identity, integration, digitization, and the region. The chances of the application are high, with Pforzheim competing against cities like Chemnitz, Dresden, Hannover, Hildesheim, Magdeburg, Nuremberg, and Zittau.

The application deadline officially begins in September 2018 and is expected to end in the fall of 2019. Before the submission, the city administration and large parts of the city council agreed to ensure a legally sound basis for the financing of the application and the implementation of the European Capital of Culture 2025 project. The contractual regulation of the cost assumption must be made before the application is submitted.

The Cultural Office Pforzheim has been identified as the contractually obligated private initiator who will cover the costs of the application. The preliminary negotiations will continue until the fall, with Mayor Peter Boch among the city council members who have approved them.

The city administration and large parts of the city council are committed to ensuring that Pforzheim's bid for the European Capital of Culture 2025 is a success, while incurring no costs to the city. The last meeting before the summer break left "homework" for the fall, as the city gears up for the application process.

For more information, you can find the post archived on the city's website. The idea of applying for the European Capital of Culture was largely dead, but with this new development, Pforzheim is once again in the running for this prestigious title.
