The city of Koblenz has taken a significant step forward in digital urban planning with the launch of its 3D city twin on the GeoPortal. This innovative tool, a key component of Smart City Koblenz, was officially unveiled by Building Director Dr. Andreas Lukas.

The GeoPortal Koblenz now offers a variety of special data, including property information, the city's tree cadastre, urban planning, flood maps, noise mapping, and disaster protection. External experts were involved in the implementation of the digital city twin, ensuring its accuracy and usefulness.

The GeoPortal Koblenz 2.0 now provides users with three-dimensional views of the city, offering an immersive experience. Two different 3D views are available: the object-based 3D city model and the photorealistic view, which can be found on the GeoPortal's website (geoportal.koblenz.de).

The Building Department of the Koblenz city administration uses the GeoPortal for a visual assessment of building projects. The geodata provided by the administration in the GeoPortal Koblenz is under the Creative Common BY-SA 4.0 license, allowing for its free use and modification.

Mayor David Langner expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the digital 3D city twin, considering it a significant advancement for the city. In November 2018, the GeoPortal of the city of Koblenz was first launched, and since then, it has undergone several updates and expansions.

One of the next expansion phases of the GeoPortal Koblenz will include live sensor data, such as real-time information about parking spaces and weather data. In December 2022, an oblique view was added to the GeoPortal, allowing aerial images to be viewed at a 45° angle.

As urban planning continues to evolve, the GeoPortal Koblenz stands as a testament to the city's commitment to embracing technology for the betterment of its citizens.
