Prominent Apple Crop Prediction at Lake Constance: Anticipating a Top-Notch Harvest

The Lake Constance apple region is actively working on the sustainability project "FAIRDI - Echt Bodenseeapfel," a initiative aimed at promoting biological diversity and reducing plant protection measures through the cultivation of robust apple varieties.

This project, which does not involve any advertisements, is not related to the initiatives like stone fruit plantings, hail protection nets, and irrigation systems mentioned in the EU program for the promotion of producer organizations in the fruit and vegetable sector. Instead, it forms a part of the common goal to sharpen and make tangible the unique profile of the apples from the region through the regional campaign 'Naturally.VON DAHEIM.'

Two producer organizations, Württembergische Obstgenossenschaft Raiffeisen e.G. (WOG) and Marktgemeinschaft Bodenseeobst e.G. (MaBo), are involved in the FairDI project. The two producer organizations bundling under the "Naturally.VON DAHEIM" project are Naturland and Bioland, comprising around 600 producer farms from Baden-Württemberg.

The Ministry of Food, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection Baden-Württemberg supports the FairDI project. State Secretary Sabine Kurtz, in the Ministry, has emphasized the importance of managing and strengthening regional and supraregional markets to boost the fruit industry. She also highlighted the EU program for the promotion of producer organizations in the fruit and vegetable sector as a special funding instrument with a relatively large scope for design.

The Lake Constance apple season opening serves as a platform to communicate the concerns of the fruit industry to a wide audience. This year, despite the challenging 2025 vegetation progress, good apple qualities and sizes developed at Lake Constance. The Lake Constance apple season opening aims to jointly promote the delicious, vitamin-rich apples and raise consumer awareness about the benefits and importance of regional fruit for a healthy diet.

State Secretary Sabine Kurtz mentioned the exploration of new markets with added value potential as a key approach to strengthening the fruit industry. The FairDI project includes a marketing concept for regional fruit production, focusing on the long-term security of sales markets through product and process quality as well as traceable regionality.

In conclusion, the Lake Constance apple region is making significant strides towards sustainable apple cultivation with the FairDI project. This initiative not only promotes the unique apples from the region but also works towards enhancing the fruit industry's resilience and marketability.
