Giorgio Armani, one of the most influential fashion designers in the world, has passed away at the age of 91. The news was announced by his fashion house on social media.

Born on July 11, 1934, in Piacenza, Emilia-Romagna region, Italy, Armani began his career in the fashion world in the 1960s as a window dresser and buyer for La Rinascente. After World War II, his family moved to Milan, where Armani would later establish his fashion empire.

Armani was known for his minimalist tailored menswear in subdued colors, reinventing the men's suit in the 1980s, making them softer and more fluid. His name became synonymous with elegance, and he dressed numerous Hollywood stars in one-of-a-kind creations. Some of his notable clients included Richard Gere, Kevin Costner, Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio, Nicole Kidman, and Cate Blanchett.

In women's fashion, Armani's name is also a classic. He dressed his clients in sophisticated designs that exuded confidence and sophistication.

Armani founded the Giorgio Armani SpA corporation in 1975 with Sergio Galeotti, who handled the financial aspects until his early death in 1985. Since then, Armani has solely led the fashion empire.

Armani's influence extended beyond clothing. He was also known for his successful line of perfumes and jeans, which sold in large quantities in his stores. With an estimated net worth of over eleven billion euros, Armani made it onto the "Forbes" list of the world's wealthiest people.

Politician Giorgia Meloni paid tribute to Armani, stating he brought glory to Italian fashion and inspired the world. Fashion designer Donatella Versace also expressed her sorrow over Armani's death.

After Armani's death, the responsibility for the Armani fashion brand is expected to be taken over by Leo Dell'Orco, who has long been involved in the company as head of the men's design studios and was seen as Armani's trusted successor. However, Armani's will also stipulates a gradual sale of the company, with potential buyers including major luxury groups like LVMH, or alternatively a stock market launch. The ultimate controlling stake may change hands in the coming years.

Armani continued to work until his last days and passed away surrounded by loved ones. His legacy will undoubtedly live on, leaving a lasting impact on the fashion industry.
