Protesters from the MNS Party Demand Wankhede Stadium for Maratha Quota Rally

In the heart of Mumbai, thousands of members from the Maratha community have converged around the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and other parts of South Mumbai, causing significant traffic disruptions and commuter inconvenience. This peaceful protest has sparked discussions about a potential solution, with prominent figure Mr. Nandgaonkar suggesting a centralised gathering at a larger venue to ease pressure on the city and better accommodate the protest.

Mr. Nandgaonkar believes that gathering in one place would allow the protest to continue peacefully and show that protesters are being cared for. He also suggests that this move would help ease public frustration, providing a more organised and manageable environment for both the protesters and the city.

As a possible venue, Mr. Nandgaonkar proposes the Wankhede Stadium, a well-known and spacious location in Mumbai. He urges the government to consider this suggestion, believing it would enable protesters to gather in one place, making the protest more manageable and less disruptive to the city's daily life.

However, not everyone shares Mr. Nandgaonkar's views. Political rival Jarange has labelled Raj Thackeray, a key figure associated with the proposed Wankhede Stadium protest, as "cunning" and an "opportunist." Jarange accuses Raj Thackeray of interfering in Maratha matters and aligning with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis despite electoral setbacks.

Despite these criticisms, Mr. Nandgaonkar defends Raj Thackeray, stating he speaks his mind and means what he says. This defence comes amidst claims that Raj Thackeray is using the Maratha protest for political gain.

It is important to note that the current owner of the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai is the Mumbai Cricket Association. Whether or not they will agree to this proposal remains to be seen. As the protest continues, discussions about a potential solution and the role of key figures like Mr. Nandgaonkar and Raj Thackeray are at the forefront of public discourse.
