Protesters from the prohibited Awami League group hold demonstration at Bijoy Sarani
Awami League Procession Held in Dhaka on September 7, 2021
A procession led by activists of the banned Awami League took place in the Bijoy Sarani area of the capital on September 7, 2021. The procession began around 1:45 PM from under the Bijoy Sarani Metrorail Station and concluded at Khamar Bari, along the road leading to the Parliament House.
The procession was confirmed by Tejgaon Police Station OC Mobarak Hossain to TBS. The leader of the group of Awami League activists who demonstrated along Bijoy Sarani towards the Parliament building in the capital was Jubo League leader Sabuj Miah.
During the procession, a banner was seized from Sirajul Islam by the police. The former Chhatra League leader of Madaripur's Shibchar was arrested from the area.
The procession route led directly to the Parliament House. The confirmation of the procession and the arrest of Sirajul Islam were also confirmed by OC Mobarak Hossain to various media outlets.
This event comes at a time when political tensions are running high in Bangladesh, with the Awami League government facing criticism from opposition parties and civil society groups. The banned status of the Awami League has been a contentious issue, with some arguing that it is an infringement on the rights of its supporters to peacefully assemble and express their views.
However, the government has maintained that the ban is necessary to maintain law and order and prevent violence. The procession on September 7, 2021, is the latest in a series of events that have raised questions about the government's commitment to democratic values and the rule of law.
As the situation continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to this latest development and whether it will take steps to address the concerns of its critics. In the meantime, the people of Bangladesh will continue to watch closely and wait for further developments.
