Protesters Gather in Mass in Dortmund to Oppose "Fascist Provocation"
In the heart of Dortmund, on the 30th of August, 2025, a demonstration was held against the growing influence of a network perceived as a threat ahead of the local elections. Organised by the network "Dortmund solidarisch," which comprises approximately 40 different organisations including the SPD, the Greens, Verdi, various cultural associations, and local groups such as the family block and the youth of "Naturfreunde Dortmund," the rally aimed to set a strong sign against right-wing hate speech.
The demonstration, which attracted around half of the registered participants, commenced at the Platz der Deutschen Einheit in front of the main station at midday. As the crowd made its way through the city center towards the Platz der Alten Synagoge, it was accompanied by a large police presence to ensure the safety of all involved.
Ole L. (38), a member of "Naturfreunde Dortmund," was among the participants. However, he chose not to give his full name due to the sensitive nature of the subject. Luisa (18), a member of the family block and the youth of "Naturfreunde Dortmund," was present as well, expressing her concerns about the AfD's program, which involves the expulsion of neighbors, classmates, and colleagues based on racist criteria.
The organisers view the AfD as an acute danger, as its agenda aims to fuel right-wing agitation and societal division. This is a concern not only for the organisers but also for many citizens of Dortmund, as the local elections approach.
The article covering this event was written by Dirk Planert. The demonstration, a powerful display of unity and resistance, is available for viewing until the 30th of August, 2027.
