Protesting bakers in Neuss and Kaarst voice their discontent over rising electricity costs!
The Lower Rhine Craftsmen's Association, representing the craftsmanship sector including bakers from Krefeld-Viersen-Neuss, has criticised the current state government for failing to provide relief for rising energy costs. According to Master Baker Rudolf Weißert, no specific political party or government has effectively supported the bakers in handling the increased energy expenses.
On Wednesday, the guild bakers are set to take action, turning off lights in sales rooms before turning off their ovens. This symbolic gesture is aimed at drawing attention to the financial struggles of bakeries, which are highly energy-intensive due to the use of ovens and cooling systems.
Master Baker Weißert expressed a sense of urgency, wanting responsible politicians to see the impact of high energy prices on bakeries. He also used the phrase "shining examples" to refer to financial support from the state, which, according to the Lower Rhine Craftsmen's Association, craft businesses do not receive unlike industries.
Marc Peters, the Managing Director of the Lower Rhine Craftsmen's Association, provided an explanation for the action, stating that many guild bakers plan to turn off the lights in all sales rooms during their usual opening hours on Wednesday.
The purpose of turning off the lights is twofold: to highlight that craft businesses do not receive financial support from the state, and to contrast the situation of bakeries with that of industries. The guild bakers hope their action will make a difference in receiving financial support.
Master Baker Weißert expressed frustration with the lack of financial support from the state, stating that exploding energy prices are a significant financial burden for bakeries. He wants to draw attention to the lack of financial support for craft businesses and the impact it has on their ability to operate.
The guild bakers' action on Wednesday is a protest against the lack of financial support compared to industries. They aim to make a statement and bring attention to their plight, hoping that it will lead to action from the government to provide relief for rising energy costs.
