Protests in Indonesia result in three fatalities due to a fire, sparked by public outcry over a driver's death.

The unexpected and violent protests that erupted across Indonesia have been the most chaotic and violent incidents during President Prabowo Subianto's presidency. The unrest was sparked by the death of a motorcycle taxi driver who was hit by a police vehicle.

The protests, which occurred in various cities including Makassar, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya in Java, and Medan in North Sumatra province, have led to several casualties and injuries. At least three people were killed in a fire at the Makassar city council building, and four others were injured in the fire and are currently receiving treatment at the hospital. Two of the victims died at the scene, and one died in the hospital.

In Makassar, protesters stormed the city council building, setting it on fire and causing chaos. The fire was started by the protesters, and vehicles were also set ablaze. A group of protesters even attempted to tear down the gates of the Mobile Brigade Corp. (Brimob) unit. The secretary of the Makassar city council, Rahmat Mappatoba, accused the protesters of storming the office to set the building on fire.

The protests in Jakarta were marked by the use of firecrackers by protesters, and the police responded with tear gas. Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the headquarters of the Brimob, demanding answers and justice for the motorcycle taxi driver's death.

Seven officers have been detained for questioning in connection with the motorcycle taxi driver's death. However, there are no search results providing information about which organization or institution arrested the officers.

The fire at the provincial council building in Makassar has since been extinguished, but the damage has been extensive. The protests across Indonesia were a clear demonstration of the public's discontent with the government, particularly with the widespread government budget cuts that have been implemented during Prabowo Subianto's presidency.

President Prabowo Subianto has pledged fast, state-driven growth, but the protests indicate that more needs to be done to address the public's concerns and restore peace and stability in the country. The government must take swift action to bring the perpetrators of the motorcycle taxi driver's death to justice and investigate the incidents of violence and property damage that occurred during the protests. Only then can the country begin to heal and move forward.
