New Members and Changes at the German Press Council

The German Press Council, a self-regulatory body for the German press, has seen some changes in its membership and leadership.

Peter Huth, Corporate Creative Director at Axel Springer and author for WELT, has been elected as the deputy spokesperson of the German Press Council. Huth was sent to the Press Council by the Federal Association of Digital Publishers and Newspaper Publishers (BDZV).

Michael Husarek, editor-in-chief of the Nürnberger Nachrichten (BDZV), has also been welcomed as a new member of the German Press Council.

In a significant shift, Manfred Protze, sent by the German Journalists' Union (dju in ver.di), has been elected as the new spokesperson of the German Press Council. Protze succeeds Kirsten von Huthen, who has left the council after many years of membership.

Fabian Ulrich, legal counsel at Hubert Burda Media, has also been welcomed as a new member of the German Press Council, sent by the Association of Free Press Media (MVFP).

It is worth noting that no explicit name was found for the new press spokesperson of the German Press Council, appointed by the journalists' professional group.

Volker Stennei, a long-standing member of the German Press Council, is no longer a part of the council after many years of service. No information about his current role or affiliation was provided in the text.

The changes in the German Press Council aim to bring fresh perspectives and expertise to the self-regulatory body, ensuring it remains effective in its role of promoting press freedom, responsibility, and high journalistic standards.
