PSG Thrash Toulouse in a Spectacular Match: Joao Neves Shines With Two Acrobatic Goals Among Six Scores by the Champions
In a thrilling encounter on August 30, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured a 6-3 victory against Toulouse in the third round of Ligue 1, reinforcing their position at the top of the table.
The match began with a blistering start for PSG, as João Neves scored two bicycle kicks in the 7th and 14th minutes, setting the tone for a high-scoring affair. Ousmane Dembélé also found the back of the net twice, one from a penalty in the 31st minute and another in the 48th minute, completing a brace. Neves added another goal to his tally in the 78th minute, completing a hat-trick.
However, Toulouse fought back valiantly, scoring three goals of their own. Charlie Cresswell capitalised on a poorly cleared shot to make it 3-1 in the first half, and Yann Gboho scored a late goal in the 89th minute. A goal from a scramble on a corner in the 37th minute brought Toulouse within two goals at 4-3.
The VAR intervened in the game twice, first to have a penalty retaken due to an early entry into the box by João Neves in the 45+4 minute, and later to deny Toulouse a penalty after a save by Lucas Chevalier. Cristian Casseres missed the retaken penalty for Toulouse, while Chevalier, the PSG goalkeeper, saved the original penalty.
Ousmane Dembélé was forced to leave the field in the 70th minute due to a left thigh injury, a hamstring injury that ended his involvement in the match. Désiré Doué won a penalty for PSG earlier in the game, but the scoreline remained unchanged.
If Lyon and Strasbourg fail to win big in their respective matches on Sunday, PSG will maintain their lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table until the end of the third round. This win marks a significant record for PSG, as they led 3-0 after only 15 minutes of play, a record in their 55-year history.
Guillaume Restes was the goalkeeper for Toulouse, and Lucas Chevalier stood firm for PSG, making crucial saves to secure the victory. A 17-year-old player, Alexis Vossah, also scored a goal for Toulouse in the 90+1 minute, adding a late consolation goal to the scoreline.
This exciting match showcases the competitive spirit and high-scoring nature of Ligue 1, with PSG continuing to set the pace at the top.
