The Technical Relief Agency (THW) in Thuringia on the Saalfelder Height has successfully completed its mission, according to recent reports. The THW, a federal operational organization carried by volunteers with around 88,000 members nationwide, provides technical and logistical support within the framework of the European Union's civil protection mechanism and on behalf of UN organizations.

In Thuringia and Saxony, Bavarian forces of the THW have been deployed since last Wednesday to support firefighting efforts. The local associations from Bavaria currently deployed include Selb, Mellrichstadt, Marktredwitz, Bayreuth, Kirchehrenbach, Forchheim, and Aschaffenburg.

A special unit "Water Damage/Pumps" from THW is on standby, with high-performance pumps ready to deploy to Saxony if needed. High-performance pumps have already been loaded onto a truck by the deployment forces, ready for a quick departure.

In Gohrischheide, around 50 Bavarian THW personnel are supporting the catering of around 600 deployment forces. Bavarian forces are also involved in leadership and coordination tasks at the deployment sites in Gohrischheide.

The THW's work includes leadership and coordination tasks, water damage and pumps management, and catering support. The agency has previously been involved in firefighting efforts in Thuringia and Saxony, and in the catering of around 600 deployment forces in Gohrischheide.

The THW is called upon by the federal government for civil protection tasks both domestically and internationally. The THW's headquarters can be contacted at (089) 15 91 51 - 655 or via email at [email protected].

It's worth noting that the THW has a large cross-border disaster protection exercise planned for September 27, 2025, involving over 450 forces from Bavaria, Saxony, and the Czech Republic. The focus will be on forest fire scenarios, including coordination, water supply by helicopter, and cooperation with various rescue and forestry services.

More information about the THW's commitment at home and abroad can be found on their website: www.thw.de. The mission of THW Kronach in Thuringia on the Saalfelder Height has also been successfully completed. Kronach forces from THW Bavaria were dispatched to Thuringia with two water transport containers (10,000 liters each) to ensure fire-fighting water supply.

The THW's work continues to be crucial in managing and mitigating disasters both in Germany and abroad. Their dedication and service are a testament to the resilience and unity of the German people in times of crisis.
