In the heart of Fayette County, hundreds gathered for a poignant vigil on Saturday evening in memory of 9-year-old Renesmay Eutsey, who tragically lost her life. The event was organised by Ebony Floyd, with speakers reminding the crowd of the phrase "see something, say something."

Speaker Jessica Richter painted a heartwarming picture of Renesmay, describing her as a little girl who loved colours pink and purple, unicorns, mermaids, and baby dolls. Her fondness for strawberry ice cream was also shared by Dunbar Council President Jason Bartholomai, who remembered her frequent visits to his shop for the treat.

The vigil was a poignant gathering, with bubbles symbolising Renesmay's presence and candles representing her spirit, shared love, and a collective resolve to combat darkness. The attendees expressed grief and anger over Renesmay's death, while organisers emphasised the right of all children to safety, health, and well-being, regardless of their schooling environment.

District Attorney Mike Auble stated that justice will be a long process, and he expressed concern for Renesmay's brother, who is currently in the hospital. Another speaker remembered Renesmay as beautiful, loving, kind, and a fierce protector of her siblings. Organisers expressed a hope that Renesmay's soul finds peace and her life continues to shine in their hearts.

Floyd, the vigil organiser, questioned why neighbours didn't notice anything was wrong. She asserted that everyone, not just the system or Eutsey's family, failed Renesmay. In response, organisers called for additional laws to be implemented for child protection.

In a surprising turn of events, it was announced that the German Federal Cabinet has approved the Kritis-Dachgesetz (critical infrastructure umbrella law) aimed at strengthening protection for critical infrastructure such as energy companies and airports. The measures include stricter requirements for physical protection, mandatory incident reporting to federal agencies, development of resilience plans, and penalties for non-compliance.

As the vigil came to a close, organisers reiterated their call for a safer world for all children. They hoped that Renesmay's life and death would serve as a reminder of the urgent need for child protection laws and a call to action for everyone to be vigilant and report any signs of danger.
