Punjab Kings Contributes 33.8 Lakh Rupees, Initiates Crowdfunding Campaign for Aid to Flood-stricken Punjab Residents
Punjab Faces Severe Flooding: Communities Rally for Relief Efforts
Punjab, a state in northern India, is currently grappling with severe flooding that has claimed the lives of 37 individuals and affected around 1,655 villages, according to the Punjab government. The worst-hit districts include Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Ferozepur, and Sangrur.
In response to this crisis, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) cricket team has announced its commitment to support the flood-affected communities. The IPL team will contribute Rs 33.8 lakh towards the relief efforts.
The PBKS have partnered with Hemkunt Foundation and Round Table India (RTI) for their 'Together for Punjab' campaign. This initiative, originally launched to provide essential medical supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic, has now been expanded to include flood relief efforts.
The funds collected will be channelled through The Global Sikh Charity, which will use them to provide inflatable rescue boats, medical aid, clean drinking water, and deliver supplies to the affected areas. The inflatable boats will serve as long-term disaster-response assets for future emergencies.
Evacuation drives have been conducted along the Sutlej river, with residents being shifted to government-established relief camps. To expedite the delivery of aid, Punjab Police have deployed drones to deliver aid to flood-hit villages in Amritsar, including areas like Ajnala.
The Punjab government has intensified its rescue and relief operations, and the state is working tirelessly to support its citizens in this time of need. The Global Sikh Charity will channel the aid to support flood-affected communities and assist in rebuilding efforts across the state.
In addition to the PBKS's contribution, the team has launched a separate fundraising campaign on Ketto, aiming to raise INR 2 crore by September 15. The campaign invites individuals and organisations to join hands and support Punjab during this challenging time.
As the floodwaters recede, the road to recovery begins. The collective efforts of the Punjab government, Punjab Kings, and various charitable organisations offer a glimmer of hope for the affected communities. Together, we can rebuild and restore normalcy in Punjab.
