Pursued Motorist Caught: 44-year-old Individual
A suspected drunk driver was removed from the road in the Cologne district of Niehl on August 11, after a brief pursuit. The man, aged 44 and from Leverkusen, was driving a VW Touareg and was charged with both hit-and-run and endangerment of traffic.
The incident began around 00:15, when officers noticed the suspicious VW Touareg at the intersection of Niehler Straße / Friedrich-Karl-Straße. The driver ignored several stop signals and red lights during the pursuit, causing concern among the officers.
The driver was eventually found hiding behind a building, and the officers found the matching car key in his possession. Inside the vehicle, they found the driver's license and ID. Two blood samples were taken from the suspect, but no new information about their condition or the status of the samples has been provided.
The VW Touareg was found later in the street "Im Stapelkai", and the vehicle was towed away as evidence. The suspect's SUV had fresh damage, suggesting it was involved in an accident during the pursuit.
In addition to the charges of hit-and-run and endangerment of traffic, the man also faces charges of suspected drunk driving. The suspect's mobile phone and driver's license were seized by the officers.
At this time, there is no publicly available information about the identity of the suspect. However, it is known that he was arrested tonight in Cologne-Niehl, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
